**Director General of Employment Department Confirms There Will Be No New Round of Alien Worker Registration**

The Director General of the Employment Department today confirmed that there will definitely not be an opening for a new round of alien worker registration as the short fall in alien labour shall instead be solved through development of the systems for labour import. At the same time, the number of workers completing nationality verification has now risen to 70, 000 persons.

Mr Jirisak Sukhonchaat, the Director General of the Employment Department, made this announcement in reference to the demands from the private sector for the government to open a new round of alien worker registration after the Songkran (Thai New Year) holidays. This demand was made given concerns that workers who returned home for the holidays may not return to work. However, following a meeting with the Minister of Labour on 19th April 2010, instructions were given that the 300, 000 alien workers who have been lost from the registration process are instead able to enter into Thailand to work using the existing labour import systems. At the same time, the nationality verification system is currently underway for those workers who have already expressed their intention to go through the process in the past. Initially, contacts have already been made to bring 20, 000 alien workers into Thailand from Burma. In the case of allowing additional workers to register, Mr. Jirisak confirmed there will definitely be no opening of a new migrant registration. In relation to the import of alien workers, if employers have the intention to continue to employer alien workers whom they employ at this time, but these workers did not meet the deadline for expressing their intention to enter the nationality verification process, these employers should send their alien workers back to their home country at the same time as reporting to the Employment Department the name of these workers. The Employment Department will then send these lists of names to the home country government so that that government can then arrange for this worker to enter into Thailand legally. In regards to the existing nationality verification process, the number of alien workers from Burma who have completed the process has now reached 70, 000. The rate of completing the process at the 3 checkpoints has been raised from 600 persons per day to 1, 000 persons per day. Requests have been made to increase the number of officials in Burma involved in this process also to cope with the increased number of alien workers going to complete the nationality verification process each day.

อธิบดีกรมการจัดหางาน เผย ไม่เปิดจดทะเบียนแรงงานต่างด้าวรอบใหม่แน่นอน พร้อมแก้ไขการขาดแคลนแรงงานด้วยระบบนำเข้า ขณะที่การพิสูจน์สัญชาติแรงงานพม่าอยู่ที่ 70,000 คน นายจีรศักดิ์ สุคนธชาติ อธิบดีกรมการจัดหางาน กล่าวถึงกรณีที่ภาคเอกชนเรียกร้องให้รัฐบาลเปิดรับแรงงานต่างด้าวรอบใหม่ หลังวันหยุดยาวสงกรานต์ เนื่องจากเกรงแรงงานที่กลับภูมิลำเนาจะไม่กลับเข้ามาทำงาน ว่า จากการร่วมประชุมกับรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงแรงงาน วานนี้ (19 เม.ย.53) ซึ่งมีคำสั่งให้แรงงานต่างด้าวที่หายไปกว่า 300,000 คน สามารถเข้ามาทำงานโดยใช้ระบบการนำเข้าแรงงานต่างด้าว ควบคู่กับการดำเนินการพิสูจน์สัญชาติของแรงงานต่างด้าวที่แจ้งความจำนงไว้ก่อนหน้านี้ เบื้องต้นได้ติดต่อนำเข้าแรงงานจากพม่าแล้วประมาณ 20,000 คน ส่วนกรณีที่จะให้เปิดรับเพิ่มนั้น ยืนยันว่า ไม่มีการเปิดจดทะเบียนแรงงานต่างด้าวรอบใหม่แน่นอน ซึ่งการนำเข้าแรงงานต่างด้าว หากนายจ้างที่มีความประสงค์จะจ้างแรงงานต่างด้าวเดิมที่มีอยู่ แต่ไปแจ้งความต้องการพิสูจน์สัญชาติไม่ทันกำหนด ก็ให้นายจ้างส่งแรงงานต่างด้าวดังกล่าวกลับประเทศต้นทาง พร้อมแจ้งรายชื่อต่างด้าวเดิมมายังกรมการจัดหางาน โดยที่กรมการจัดหางานจะแจ้งรายชื่อความต้องการไปยังประเทศต้นทาง เพื่อให้มีการนำเข้าอย่างถูกกฎหมายต่อไป สำหรับความคืบหน้าการพิสูจน์สัญชาติแรงงานต่างด้าวสัญชาติพม่าอยู่ที่ประมาณ 70, 000 คน โดยอัตราการให้บริการรวมทั้ง 3 ด่าน เพิ่มจาก 600 คน เป็น 1,000 คนต่อวัน จึงได้ประสานขอเพิ่มเจ้าหน้าที่ของพม่า เพื่อมาให้บริการการพิสูจน์สัญชาติให้เพียงพอกับจำนวนการพิสูจน์สัญชาติที่เกินเป้าในแต่ละวัน
